  1. @vanitarattan reviewing Paula's Choice Pore Normalizing Cleanser at 02:02 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • The first one that I love was pore normalizing cleanser from Paula's Choice0:55
    • It's a hydrating cleanser, but it's also got BHA or salicylic acid, which is basically the best exfoliator for us and specifically for oily skin2:02
    • It penetrates into the pore and almost unclogs that pore, which is exactly what we want2:11
    • There's no AHAs in this particular product. There's no witch hazel. There's no denatured alcohol. There's no fragrance. There's no essential oils2:20
    • The surfactants that they've used are quite gentle2:31
    • It's also quite a hydrating product, so it's got moisturizers such as arginine, butylene glycol, and glycerin in it as well, which is excellent2:43
    • Very simple formula, but I love it and if I had oily prone skin or any of my friends do, this is the one that I would recommend2:51
  2. @vanitarattan reviewing Anua Heartleaf Quercetinol Pore Deep Cleansing Foam at 03:52 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • The first ingredient in here is Houttuynia extract3:08
    • The second ingredient in here is glycerin, which is excellent, actually, because it is also a humectant, holds water in the top layer of skin3:52
    • Sodium cocoyl glycinate, which is the main surfactant in this. It's quite a gentle surfactant4:00
    • They've put in glycerol stearate SE and that's three out of five on the comedogenic scale, which is a problem because if this is for pore cleansing, you're trying to get into the pore, you do not want to clog the pore4:19
    • They added fragrance and it's pretty strong4:41
    • Fragrance means that this product is not a naive safe product because it contains fragrance4:44
    • For me, unfortunately, this is not an approved product5:40
  3. @vanitarattan reviewing SKIN1004 Poremizing Deep Cleansing Foam at 06:22 in a YouTube Shorts video
    SKIN1004$12.60
    • This product is a disaster6:13
    • The first ingredient in this product is myristic acid, which is three out of five on the comedogenic scale. It's basically the worst surfactant you can use6:22
    • They put in stearic acid, lauric acid. Stearic acid is three out of five on the comedogenic scale. Lauric acid is four out of five on the comedogenic scale6:25
    • The surfactant that they used was sodium C14-16 sulfonate, which is very harsh, which is actually the opposite of what we want to be doing for pore minimizing6:38
    • This product just please just avoid7:07
  4. @vanitarattan reviewing innisfree Volcanic BHA Pore Cleansing Foam at 07:55 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • I can totally see that if you have large pores or you have oily acne-prone skin, this is going to be a really attractive product for you8:24
    • Kaolin is your clay. It's very absorbent of oil. Plus, they put in glycerin, which I love because glycerin is your humectant. So, putting the two together is beautiful because you don't want to overly dry the skin with a clay wash. So, that's genius7:55
    • The two surfactants that I don't like is your myristic acid and lauric acid8:17
    • The BHA is your salicylic acid. However, I would say that this is less than 1% which is not ideal if you're creating a face wash that is for oily acne-prone skin
    • The other big disaster is they put in fragrance10:12
    • Unfortunately, this is another hard no product
  5. @vanitarattan reviewing CeraVe Foaming Cleanser at 10:31 in a YouTube Shorts video
    CeraVe$14.99
    • I love this product. So, oh, go and buy this one definitely10:24
    • The positives are the moisturizers. A ton of moisturizers. They've got glycerin. They've got propylene glycol. They've got caprylyl glycol. They've also got a sodium hyaluronate which is a cousin of hyaluronic acid10:31
    • It's got very mild surfactants in it. So, it's got coco betaine and it's also got sodium cocoyl glycinate in it, too. So, again, very mild surfactants10:41
    • This is great for oily to normal skin. It's non-comedogenic. So, it's great for even acne-prone skin. It's great for inflamed skin10:50
    • There's no essential oils, no fragrance, no irritants, no sensitizers. They're getting the basics right11:00
    • I'm absolutely loving CeraVe and I recommend it actually in a lot of my videos for skin of color11:42
  6. @vanitarattan reviewing Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam at 11:52 in a YouTube Shorts video
    Clinique$28.00
    • The second ingredient of the anti-blemish cleansing foam is denatured alcohol11:47
    • Denatured alcohol, sorry, is a solvent. That's the reason for existing. But actually, in skin care, it's just not a good thing to use because the second it hits your skin, it starts to destroy the top layer of skin11:52
    • The sixth ingredient is witch hazel13:42
    • Witch hazel is a bit of a cheap trick. What it does is it's got tannins in it which is an antioxidant. Those tannins lead to a drying effect of the skin13:45
    • You're actually encouraging your skin to produce more oil. And so, you end up in this vicious cycle14:10
    • I like the third ingredient is salicylic acid which means it's probably at about 2%
    • Salicylic is great because it basically unclogs the pores. It's good for acne-prone skin
  7. @vanitarattan reviewing Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser at 15:00 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • The positives here are they've got glycerin, they've got butylene glycol14:55
    • It's got sodium laureth sulfate. So, it's a more gentle surfactant which is good15:00
    • It's got sodium lauroyl sarcosinate which is non-irritating. It's non-sensitizing up to about 15% in a wash-off product. So, again, it seems fine15:05
    • But then they went and added seven fragrances15:13
    • Fragrance is the number one cause of contact dermatitis15:21
    • It's got amyl cinnamal in it. It's got benzyl benzoate in it. It's got citronellol. It's got geraniol. It's got linalool. It's got parfum. Like they literally it's like a whole puff perfume shop, I think, in this one product15:37
  8. @vanitarattan reviewing Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel at 16:42 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • The marketing here says anti-inflammatory balm, mint, and lavender extracts soothe your skin. This is a contradiction. This is a bit of a marketing trick16:21
    • You are irritating the skin by putting mint on the skin. It's a skin sensitizer. Same with lavender16:42
    • I would avoid this product17:04
  9. @vanitarattan reviewing Facetheory Clarifying Cleanser at 17:24 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • Make sure you buy the unscented version17:15
    • I love the fact that they have an unscented version. I think that means that they are listening to their consumer which is excellent17:24
    • It has 4% glycolic and 2% BHA
    • 4% glycolic acid is fine for skin of color17:38
    • I quite like that it's less than 5% and I don't think it's going to cause issues for skin of color
    • I just think you need to make sure you use the unscented version of this product17:19
  10. @vanitarattan reviewing Garnier Skin Active Pure Active 3 in 1 Clay at 18:37 in a YouTube Shorts video
    Garnier$9.99
    • It's a terrible product
    • They added carrageenan which is comedogenic18:34
    • They added alcohol as a solvent which as we know triggers free radicals in our skin18:37
    • They've got the pigment CI 42090 which is very high on the irritant scale18:43
    • They used skin sensitizers. So, they've got eucalyptus, limonene, linalool, menthol18:52
    • The one ingredient that they needed which was salicylic acid, the only good ingredient in this product, by the way, they put in at less than 1%. So, it's not even very effective19:00
    • I wouldn't buy this product19:18
  11. @vanitarattan reviewing Murad AHA BHA Exfoliating Cleanser at 19:29 in a YouTube Shorts video
    Murad$37.00
    • It could have been good, but it has glycolic acid plus lactic acid plus salicylic acid19:23
    • I do like the fact that glycolic is at a low percentage19:29
    • I also like the fact that this product is fragrance-free19:33
    • But then they went and added a physical exfoliant19:34
    • You don't need that physical exfoliation. It can damage the skin and it's a marketing trick20:01
  12. @vanitarattan reviewing Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash at 20:46 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • I just assumed that this would be a good product for oily acne-prone skin, but again it had fragrance in it, had menthol in it, had glycolic acid in it20:37
    • Menthol is a sensitizer to the skin20:46
    • Fragrance is your number one cause of contact dermatitis and it's a co-sensitizer20:48
    • Avoid that one
  13. @vanitarattan reviewing Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Clay Cleanser Mask at 21:35 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • The positives are 0.5% salicylic acid which means it's an anti-inflammatory at that percentage21:23
    • It's also got glycerin which is a moisturizer and it's got panthenol which is also an anti-inflammatory and a moisturizer21:35
    • The negative, however, is they have fragrance21:41
    • They've got again menthol lactate which again is a skin sensitizer21:45
    • It's also got glycolic acid in it. So now you've sensitized the skin and you've put glycolic acid21:59
  14. @vanitarattan reviewing Obagi Nu-Derm Foaming Gel at 22:58 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • The third ingredient is cocamidopropyl betaine. So this is a booster of the lathering effect. So it's a gentle surfactant and that's actually why people get a lot of satisfaction out of it22:37
    • It's generally considered low risk for sensitizing skin22:58
    • They've used five different forms of paraben23:11
    • They did decide in this product to add fragrance and pigment which as you know, I'm not a fan of23:40
    • It's wash-off so it's not such a big issue23:47
  15. @vanitarattan reviewing Dr Vanita Rattan Trio Blemish Face Range at 24:57 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • In the morning, if you have very oily acne-prone skin, then I recommend you use these three products together25:02
    • This is your salicylic acid face wash, your exfoliator, I use salicylic acid, and then your AM gel moisturizer
    • In this face wash, we put niacinamide to control sebum, salicylic acid to unclog the pore, glycerin to hydrate the skin
    • We also put acne calm in here which it helps to poison the P. acnes bacteria
    • This has 2% salicylic acid which is the ideal percentage when you're dealing with oily acne-prone skin24:57
    • It's also got a 5% glycerin in it so this doesn't dry your skin like most salicylic acid exfoliators25:03
    • We also put in here green tea extract plus sage and that will basically calm the skin down when you are exfoliating25:11
    • In here, we've put in 2% niacinamide which helps control your sebum production, 2% sodium ascorbyl phosphate so that's your water-soluble vitamin C plus your 3% glycerin25:21
    • I also loaded this with anti-inflammatories. Your skin is already inflamed from acne. So in here we've got panthenol, green tea extract, allantoin and arnica25:33
    • The PM gel is loaded with your tyrosinase inhibitors starting with your alpha arbutin and your ferulic acid25:48
    • We've got two forms of vitamin C so it's got your sodium ascorbyl phosphate, water-soluble vitamin C and your tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, your fat-soluble vitamin C which is why this also helps with scarring25:53
    • This is also got your retinol, your retinaldehyde and it's also got ceramides plus of course your acne calm26:15
  16. @vanitarattan reviewing Youth to the People Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamins Superfood Cleanser at 26:51 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • I like the fact that it's got gentle surfactants in it. So it's got sodium cocoyl glutamate and it's got cocamidopropyl betaine26:30
    • I love those two ingredients26:51
    • The positives of this product is that they have soothers in them and I love soothers. So soothers are things like aloe vera, D panthenol, it's also got green tea extract. So these are all great for skin of color27:13
    • I also love the fact that they've managed to do the whole antioxidant combination27:23
    • They went and added something that confused me and that was natural essence. So natural essence often means essential oils28:06
    • I actually really like this product except for this one ingredient28:16
    • It's a really big shame at the last hurdle28:46
    • If you have sensitive skin or acne-prone skin which is basically inflamed skin or any form of dermatitis, I would avoid anything that says fragrance in it, full stop28:34
  17. @vanitarattan reviewing COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser at 29:05 in a YouTube Shorts video
    COSRX$12.60
    • It's got cocamidopropyl betaine which is a very balanced mild cleanser28:59
    • It's also got sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate which has luxurious foaming capabilities, but it's also quite gentle on the skin29:05
    • It's also got butylene glycol which is great. It's a moisturizer, it's a solvent, but it also helps other ingredients to penetrate faster and deeper into the skin29:13
    • It's also got camellia japonica extract which is an antioxidant. It's anti-pollution and it's very soothing to the skin29:23
    • I would say buy buy buy and I'm going to purchase this one myself too29:46
  18. @vanitarattan reviewing Dr Sheth's Neem & Salicylic Acid Face Wash at 29:53 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • This is great for oily skin29:50
    • There's no irritants in it. It is fragrance free29:53
    • The third ingredient here is glycerin. So it's hydrating29:55
    • I like it
  19. @vanitarattan reviewing The Body Shop Seaweed Pore Cleansing Exfoliator at 30:14 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • Again, perfume, linalool. So a lot of fragrance. So again, I would avoid30:14
  20. @vanitarattan reviewing The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash at 30:43 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • It's got denatured alcohol in it, which as you know, leads to a free radical party in the skin and that's not a good party30:20
    • They added menthol30:43
    • Please just avoid menthol in your skin care30:47
  21. @vanitarattan reviewing Vichy Normaderm Phytosolution Intensive Purifying Gel at 31:06 in a YouTube Shorts video
    • It's got perfume in it
    • This particular product actually had a lot right with the product. They just went wrong with the perfume step31:01
    • That was the one thing that if they just removed that from that particular product, it would have been a great product31:06
